I joined this summer camp expecting to be teaching and getting some experience as well but, I got a lot more then that truth be told. Taitung is a wonderful place culturally and it really opened my eyes to the importance of preserving ones culture. Seeing how they kept their native language and traditions has inspired me to do the same, by learning about my roots of origin.
Although the kids here are some what more energetic/straight forward then I would like them to be in class, they are pure at heart and in some ways they are teachers themselves. I have gain what I came for but I got a lot more then that, new friendship and being part of the native traditions has made me want to come back next year to Bin-Mao Junior High School.
I hope the kids have become more inspired to learn the English language as I have learned from them the importance of traditions and culture.
