The quality of instruction at Chientan could most definitely be improved. The lectures were too long and mostly unhelpful. If you look at studies, people actually absorb more information if they aren't constantly working. I think we were overworked for no good reason, which prevented us from absorbing the information better. The classes should be mostly keep to the morning, while the afternoon should be used for preparation for the teaching weeks. We should also be given more freedom and allowed to go out. We aren't little kids, many of us are adults. It's preposterous to make Chientan a jail.
The teaching weeks weeks AMAZING. My kids were much smarter than I expected. They always followed our instructions. As we got to know them better, they became rowdier, but I took that as a good sign of their increasing interest in English. It's such a special experience to truly affect someone's life and hopefully inspire them to master English.
The tour was better than Chientan, but I still wish it wasn't so restrictive. Information isn't always on time, often times we weren't sure of what the schedule was. The counselors should trust that we are young adults and allow us to be free. The tour schedule was not very well planned. We were taken to way to many places, without being able to truly appreciate any of the locations. The aboriginal experience was good because we spent the whole day there and were able to properly explore Naru Wan. The talent show isn't really worth it because everyone just uses their opening ceremony routines. I think we should get more time to ourselves to just rest and relax.
